To Reach the Carbon Emission Target, Increase Natural Gas Utilization

As one of the largest archipelagic countries, Indonesia has abundant energy sources, including natural gas. The country needs optimal utilization of natural gas to support its huge energy needs in various sectors, as well as for national development.

Data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, compiled from the Indonesia Natural Gas Balance 2018-2027, shows that as of January 2017 Indonesia has natural gas reserves of 142.72 TSCF or equivalent to 1.53% of natural gas reserves in the world. Of this amount, 100.36 TSCF are proven gas reserves and 42.36 TSCF are potential gas reserves.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also noted that Indonesia’s natural gas lifting would fluctuate until it reaches a peak in 2022 of 8,661 MMSCFD, then decreases to 8,048 MMSCFD in 2027.
